Body oblong and compressed. Head large. Eyes moderately large. Large superior mouth with prominent lower jaw. Maxilla reaching slightly beyond mid-point of eye. Jaws with minute teeth and 2 pairs of small canine teeth on both jaws. Lateral line present and nearly parallel to dorsal profile, reaching to caudal fin base. Scales, cycloid and moderate in size, and also deciduou. Pelvic fin, originates just after pectoral fin base. Anal fin long, base longer than 2nd dorsal fin base. Dorsal fins with dusky borders.
